About the owner/principal…
Kevin B. McClenahan, Owner/Principal, Tier1 CM
Background/Education…
Kevin was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. He attended and graduated from Baylor University with a degree in communication. During his college years, Kevin took some time off school to spend in California enjoying the nice weather and spending his free time ski diving and base diving. He even packed parachutes as a job to earn the money to pursue this hobby. Once he was ready to take his education seriously he reenrolled at Baylor where he would then meet his wife while they were both attending Baylor and working at the restaurant Outback Steakhouse.
Professional…
Kevin felt a call to serve our country and immediately enlisted in the US Army upon college graduation. He left only a few weeks after graduation to start the boot camp at Ft. Benning. Even though he was a college graduate, Kevin made the decision to enlist instead of going the officer route so he could go directly to the “Q-Course.” This is short for the Special Forces Qualifying Course, as his goal was to be with “the best of the best.” After making it through each phase of this course (lasting around 18 months for his class) he was put onto an SF team. This team of guys (12 men with different specialties) would be the group of men he would work with daily while in the states and deploy with to Iraq. He was placed in 3rd Special Forces Group which is located in Fayetteville, NC where he was stationed his entire military career.
While Kevin had a passion for his work in the military and service to our country he also had other aspirations he felt driving him toward the business world. His wife, Rhonda, was already working full time as a real estate agent and the two had started to invest in short-term investment houses. She was occasionally finishing “flip” houses while he was on deployments. When his contract was up Kevin decided to transition out and pursue business dreams.
It was the mortgage broker role that Kevin decided to learn as an entry into the commercial real estate world- not a small aspiration. Go big or go home- right?! While there was definitely a learning curve, and in a career that is 100% commission based where you do the work upfront with no guarantees it was a risk- but one that has paid off. Those first couple years were challenging but he wouldn’t have it any other way as he was able to see a wide array of property types and owners and realizing that no 2 deal is EVER the same. He grew in his skill and truly mastered the “fixer” role of a mortgage broker. He has a deep appreciation for his clients and has a passion for helping them grow their portfolios. Many of his clients add Kevin to their permanent “team” and call on him often (even weekly) to help them strategize new and potential deals.
Kevin has had the ability to invest in commercial real estate himself in the self-storage property class and has been involved in all aspects of growing, running, and selling these properties.
Family…
Kevin married his college “sweetheart” shortly after graduating in 2006. They met while working at Outback Steakhouse restaurant in Waco. They became friends and work out partners and were already best friends by the time they started dating. It didn’t take long after dating for the two to know they had found the one.
They were married about 4 years before welcoming their first child, their son Ethan, into the world. It was the exact week that Kevin went his last days to report at the army base that Ethan was born. The couple went on the welcome a baby girl, Taylor, only 14 months later, and then their baby girl Emma, less than 2 years after big sister. Emma dances and is practicing for her first Nutcracker performance in 2021. She is very creative, loves fashion and style, and loves playing school, and already dreams of being a teacher one day. Taylor plays any and every sport- mostly soccer and softball. She is always wanting to be active and loves collecting pokemon cards and creating and running new businesses. Ethan is an artist and enjoys, photography, graphic design and sketching. The majority of the pictures and graphics on this website are done by him. He is also teaching himself the guitar and playing soccer.
Together as a family, the McClenahans all enjoy outdoor activities like, swimming, fishing, boating, camping, riding bikes, traveling, going to camp. They attend church on Sundays at Faithbridge in Spring and have participated in about 15 years of BSF (Bible Study Fellowship).
Their favorite vacation spots are to Breckenridge, CO- during both winter and summer seasons and to Pincecove Christian Family Camp. 2021 marked their 6th summer as family campers!
Interests/Hobbies
Kevin enjoys working out-either in his garage gym or the actual gym when time allows. He also likes going to the range to shoot and always welcomes taking a buddy to share this hobby. He occasionally plays golf, when someone really asks, but it’s not his personal favorite. He enjoys watching college football, and professional baseball and basketball. He also avidly follows politics and finance news. He has enjoyed learning about and investing in coinbase these last few years along with his love for real estate.
